The Johannes Joergensen Society

The 16th november 2002 the Johannes Joergensen Society was established at a reunion in the Svendborg public library.

The Johannes Joergensen Society see itself as a forum for the propagation of the internationally famous Danish writer whose works on the great saints Francis of Assisi, Catarina of Siena and Birgitta of Vadstena has made him a big name internationally which places him only second to his Fionien congenial Hans Christian Andersen.

The name of Johannes Joergensen is also linked with the literary world of 1900 where the conflict between realism and symbolism occured.

In Denmark, Johannes Joergensen never obtained the position his artistic skills deserved him. His artistic standing is of such magnitude that it would be wrong to describe it narrowly though his Catholic faith obviously marked a significant part of his production.

The Johannes Joergensen Society is open to anyone who has an interest in the great danish writer whose poetry and linguistic aestheticism puts him among the first in danish literature.

The general assembly takes place in november - in the native town of Johannes Joergensen.
